Initially M6T was contacted by a retailer to assist in the importing and delivery of bottled spring water from Australia, Scandinavia, Eastern and Western Europe. After receiving the request, we confirmed the customer’s requirements and gained an understanding of their import and delivery needs.
The client’s shipment challenge
As the client needed imports from multiple suppliers to door delivery (EXW), LCL (Less than Container Load) and FCL (Full Container Load), various shipping routes needed to be established from port of origin, to Johannesburg. The customer’s secondary challenge was not having available warehousing, as their existing warehouse was too small and could not receive containers for unpacking.
The M6T solution
As the client’s suppliers were spread out across multiple countries (Australia, Scandinavia, Eastern and Western Europe), M6T needed to design a shipment route from the shipment origin ports via Durban and up to Johannesburg. We also provided the client with our warehousing services, which included assisting the client with unpacking of the cargo and port health inspection. The now palletised cargo is stored at our warehouse and gets delivered as and when requested by the consignee.
Results
With the system in place, the process works like clockwork from receipt into warehouse and dispatch with stock reconciliation.
