M6T Sponsors Gauteng East District Mathematics Olympiad

Education is a very important component of M6T’s CSI programme, so when the opportunity to partner with Gauteng Department of Education’s (GDE) East District arose, no persuasion was required. We are very cognisant of the critical role STEM subjects will play in the 21st century and beyond so sponsoring medals, trophies, and stationery for Grade 4-6 mathematics champions of the East Rand whom we believe will go on to proudly represent us at Provincial level is something that brings joy to us as an organisation. The competition starts with Cluster winners, District winners, and all the way to Provincial.

Our MD, Lesego A. Tladi was able to attend the recent prizegiving ceremony held at Laerskool Christiaan Bayers in Springs on the 29th of August. To quote from her address to the pupils, “Tata Mandela said a good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.” “Young people must take it upon themselves to ensure that they receive the highest education possible so that they can represent us well in future as future leaders”. “From this we gather that it is not only important to get educated, but equally important to maintain a good heart = be a good person. My message to you is, as you strive to becoming the best in Maths and all other subjects, never forget to remain humble and decent, remain a good and obedient child, good individual who helps others in need or less fortunate, supports classmates who struggle with mathematics or whatever else in school…” Remember, a good head and good heart are always a formidable combination!”

So many expressions of gratitude have been received from different participants – educators, GDE officials, parents, pupils, community, but nothing was more gratifying than the smiles and expression on the children’s faces when they received their awards. One such email was from Mr. Jaco VW Kruger, the Principal of Laerskool Christiaan Bayers who said, “…I would like to use this mail to thank you and your company for your jovial sponsorship towards our Maths Olympiad Prizegiving Ceremony. It was truly an impressive occasion made possible by your generosity. Thank you again for your investment in our youth, you brought great value to the occasion and the lives of our children….”

Ms Jabulisile Shozi (GDE Maths DSA) said, “We have no words to express our gratitude and are overflowing with joy over today’s event. Wish M6T all the blessings and success into the future and pray that the partnership may continue into next year and beyond”.

We remain committed to the Math Olympiad and look forward to the next upcoming events
